As an internet home business owner you only get one chance to make a first impression so think about your purpose for joining in the wave and how you want others to perceive you. That especially includes your photo. It says a lot about you. You Make Money Onnline and want people to know about it but how they view you will depend on if they refer you to their friends.
Purpose: Build relations and be open to learn from others. Your and other peoples conversations can be observed or interactive. Social networking is an easy way to spread the word on something but it needs doing within the etiquette of social networking environment. That means do NOT push your home based business down people’s throats. To make money online takes time, it can’t be rushed.
Social networking is an excellent way of observing conversations between people on market research and ideas, best market research environment possible because it is in an unfiltered environment. You can start or join focus groups, set up surveys, post articles and put to dig for exposure. This way you can evaluate what type of internet business people are interested in, who is successful and then find out what they are doing and why. Be a good student and supper sleuth.
It is a great way to spark a conversation, then observe and listen.
Get links out there to everything you do and have others linking to your webs and blogs.
Etiquette: Don’t get on line and then sell, sell, sell - Sending all your new friends links to everything you sell over and over. You’ll get banned fast. I know when someone does this to me; I delete them from my friend list immediatly.
Drawbacks: Addiction! It is so easy to get sucked in and time disappears. I strongly suggest this is something you should decide ahead of time how much time you will devote to this form of marketing. Then litterly set a timer to go off when your time is done.
Various Networks: Each Social Network is much like a flavor of ice cream. For myself I’ve found that being in more than one helps as I’m going for links, Branding of my Name, Business Name and for learning from those in SEO and Marketing-on-line that are walking this path before me. I’m very willing to be both leader and student. No one likes a ‘know it all’. I intend to make money on line so working with a team has had benifits.

Getting Started and learning how to appeal to the nitch you are reaching for: Start with something’s that is familiar. Introduce yourself by thoughtfully filling out your profile, including photo and any links you want to be available. Then write an article about yourself, your interests, hobbies, family connection or whatever you want. I want people to see me as a real person with a life beyond my business. If all I see is someone as a business I rarely invite them to be my friend in a network. I want to interact with real people as they will have a richer life and we can connect with ease.
Also when you have created a relationship, open up more about yourself but please – LISTEN. People like to be listened to, not just talked to. Creating relationships takes time but once you have developed a strong relationship with a power player (those serious about their business and successful) they will introduce you to their friends and now your sphere of influence can start to grow.
Again, keep writing articles (content rich and key words) and comment on other peoples work and writings. That is something I make a point to do, scan others notes or articles or digs, what eve the Social Network, and let them know I’m following their work. Take the time to look at what others are doing and comment on it. They then know you are not just in for your own benefit. Yes, you want them to know about your home based business and the Make Money Online opportunity with it, but you need to create a relationship for that to happen. Think of it like making fiends and keeping friends. It takes time and nurturing but a good friend is a jewel to be sure.
